Leaders Must First Care

Leaders who prioritize the well-being of their people are the ones who truly unlock their team’s full potential. According to Gail Hardie, caring leaders demonstrate a leadership style that brings out the best in their team. But it must be inherent in the leader, not a part of their role. This is very important because it’s never about fear, manipulation, or trying to force your will on anyone.

According to Fernando Vilas, these leaders inspire others to follow them even in very adverse situations. They understand their employees’ needs, and they genuinely care about them. Not caring about them when they want something done or when it suits their interest or purpose, but genuinely caring irrespective of the situation. It’s also important to add that leaders who genuinely care about their employees understand the importance of challenging them to believe in their potential, even if it means helping them find a better job that aligns with their strengths.

A caring leader is someone who has a genuine interest in others. They have a desire to build a relationship with their team, to know the people working with them, and to encourage everyone on their team to be the best they can be.
