David finally decided to face up to his fears after his friend died unexpectedly. If you only knew David, he was always doing something; are you familiar with the expression “jack of all trades master of none” that was David. Someone with so much potential but allowing all his gifts and talents to slip away. When his good friend died, that hit home, and immediately David realized something needed to change in his life because he was behind on his dreams, and he knew deep down that his life has meaning.
There are a lot of David’s out there, people with so much potential but never focusing on that one thing they are good at. To live your dreams, you can awaken the giant within, but you must find your purpose, live for your purpose, and concentrate on that single thing that brings meaning and value to your life and to the many people who benefit from your gifts.
It’s interesting, all the greats, the people who made a difference in this world all spoke and wrote about the same thing: focus.
Are you familiar with Tyler Perry’s story?
After taking all of his money to fund his first show, Tyler Perry, expecting over 1500 people to show up to his play, got only 30 people to show up. This left him with no place to live, no money, and no job. Tyler Perry was homeless, but he kept faith in this one thing he was good at, which was acting and producing plays. That was all he focused on; he never shifted from his dream.
Eventually, all his efforts paid off after seven years of trying, and now, Tyler Perry is one of the most successful actors, producers, writers, etc. in the game today. But he kept faith in his gifts and believed that one day everything will work out. Tyler Perry summed it up like this:
“when a seed is planted in the ground, all you can do is water it. You cannot control the sunshine, you cannot control the weather, and you cannot control when the locusts will come and destroy your seeds. All you can do is plant your seed in the ground, water it, and believe. That’s what allowed me to be in this position right now. I would not stop believing. I planted my seed, and I worked really hard. I had one idea, and that was to do a play. All the other stuff came. My only focus was to do my one play, and I knew if I could get that to work, everything else would come to pass.”
Most people have no idea of the superpower they have within, but it can only be genuinely harnessed when we focus all of our resources on finding and living our purpose. Controlled focus is like a laser beam that can cut through anything that seems to be stopping you. When we focus consistently on improvement in any area, we develop unique distinctions on how to make that area better. One reason, so few of us achieve what we truly want is that we never direct our focus; we never concentrate our power. Most people dabble their way through life, never deciding to master anything in particular.
I believe most people fail in life simply because they major in minor things. Many people go in so many directions, according to Tyler Perry, this week they’re doing this and next week they’re doing that. These people who are all over the place, I usually try to get them to focus. Focus on one thing, one area. Put all of your energy into watering one area. If you spread the water across many, many seeds, you don’t have as much water for one seed. So focus on one thing. Make it your priority and stick with it no matter what.
You have to focus and find something you love to do, even if you are not being paid to do it. David found out the hard way; that we’re all here to contribute something unique to the world, that deep within all of us lies a special gift, and when you decide to live your gift and to live for your dreams, your life will never be the same again. You will become someone of value and you will become someone who adds tons value to people lives all over the world.
